Proofread carefully. Spelling and grammar errors undermine an otherwise strong application. Take a break and come back with fresh eyes.
Ask someone else to read it if you can — a second pair of eyes catches what you miss.
Check the visual layout — clear readable font, consistent headings and spacing, no photograph.
